Abstract
Local wound care in the cutaneous injury and burn has been the long-standing problem. With the advent of the antiseptics over a hundred years ago, agents like phenols, picric acid, mercurials, 10% silver nitrate and the like have all been tried without much satisfaction. Antibiotics, parenterally administered, still do not seem to solve the problem of the infection altogether.

And, especially, the current treand in the burn treatment is back to topical antibacterial therapy.

The parenteral antibiotics are useful in the control of infection in the early postburn course, during the pre-and postgrafting periods, and in the times of the septisemia.

Otherwise, systemically given antibiotics have not satisfactorily cut down the abundant growth of the organisms in the burn wound itself.

Thus we see the return to topical approach so as to prevent overwhelming infection and, to improve burn wound healings.

Until recently, topical therapy had fallen into disrepute because of the toxic reations and failure to improve infections.

For years, fine mesh gauz soaked with nitro-furazone has been the main dressing material for the burn cases in our hospital.

But, recently, we using Sofra-tulle which is a lanolin-paraffin gauze dressing impregnated with 1% Framycetin.

This product has been made available to our hospital and this paper serves as a report on our early experiences with it.
